San Antonio Missions News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The Missions offense provided an early lead for Moises Lugo and the Missions pitching staff. Lugo dominated in his debut while the Missions bullpen held runs off the board. The Missions completed their ninth shutout victory of the season with a final score of 5-0.

Instead of waiting towards the middle and late innings, the Missions offense jumped out to an early lead on Friday night. In the top of the first inning, San Antonio plated three runs five runs against Brett Daniels. Esteury and Agustin Ruiz started the inning with back-to-back singles. Eguy Rosario drove in Esteury Ruiz with an RBI single. Allen Cordoba was the next batter and he drove in Agustin Ruiz and Rosario with a base hit to center field. The Missions held a 3-0 lead after one inning.

The Missions used the long ball to improve their lead in the second inning. With one out in the inning, Chandler Seagle singled to left field. Esteury Ruiz followed that up with a line drive two-run home run. His sixth homer of the season made it a 5-0 ballgame.

Meanwhile, Moises Lugo was making his Double-A debut for the Missions. The 22-year-old right-hander was 4-3 with a 3.46 ERA in 17 games with Advanced-A Fort Wayne this season. He dominated the Hooks offense in 4.2 innings. Lugo allowed just two hits, walked two batters, and struck out seven batters. He was pulled in the fifth inning and relieved by Dylan Rheault.

The Corpus Christi had their first scoring opportunity in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cesar Salazar led off the inning with a base hit. Alex Holderbach followed that up with a base hit to put two runners on with no outs. Rheault was able to get Bryan Arias to ground into a double play with Salazar advancing to third base. Following the double play ball, Nick Kuzia was called on to replace Rheault. Kuzia struck out Corey Julks on three pitches to end the threat.
