Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, CA - The Grizzlies pounded out 12 hits and eight runs behind starter Pat Misch to defeat Tacoma 8-1 on Wednesday night at Chukchansi Park. Eliezer Alfonzo homered and tripled, driving in four runs, to support Misch's second win of the season.
The Grizzlies manufactured a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early lead. A single and stolen base by Ivan Ochoa got things started before Justin Leone earned a free pass. After a double-steal put both Ochoa and Leone in scoring position, Nate Schierholtz singled to center scoring both runners for a 2-0 advantage.
Grizzlies starter Patrick Misch baffled the Tacoma lineup, allowing just two hits through his first five innings of work. In the sixth, the Rainiers started the frame with back-to-back singles, and a hit batter loaded the bases. Misch got the next batter to hit a groundball, but the resulting force out scored the run from third base to cut the deficit to one.
In the bottom half of the inning however, Fresno pushed across three more runs, all of a three-run homer by Eliezer Alfonzo to left-center field, his second of the season, off of Justin Thomas. Thomas, making his Triple-A debut, surrendered five runs on six hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Misch exited after 6.0 strong innings, giving way to Billy Sadler. Sadler faced the minimum three batters in the 7th, and though he loaded the bases in the 8th, blew away Bryan LaHair and Yung Chi Chen to end the threat.
The Grizzlies scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, one coming on an Alfonzo triple, to essentially put the game away. Fresno closer Alex Hinshaw retired the side in order on just eight pitches to nail the 8-1 win down.
Having split the first two games of this four-game series, Fresno and Tacoma renew acquaintances on Thursday night at Chukchansi Park. Right-hander Victor Santos looks for his second win as a Grizzly and will be opposed by Tacoma righty Sean White. Thursday is the first Thirsty Thursday of the 2008 season, with 12oz Tecate Light beers and sodas available for just $1 at the Park.
