Sidewinders Blanked by Rivercats

Sacramento, CA - Gregorio Petit singled home Wes Bankston in the bottom of the fifth inning and Sacramento's pitching staff took over from there as the Rivercats beat the Sidewinders 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Juan Gutierrez was saddled with the loss despite a nice outing. Gutierrez (0-2) went six innings and allowed just the one run on four hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Brad Knox started for Sacramento and earned the win with seven shutout innings. Knox (2-0) allowed four hits and struck out five. Troy Cate pitched the final two innings for his first save of the season. The two combined to retire the final 14 Sidewinder hitters who came to the plate.

The Sidewinders and Rivercats play game two of their series tomorrow morning at Raley Field. Left-hander Evan MacLane starts for Tucson against lefty Dan Meyer for Sacramento. First pitch is at 11:35 am. The game will air LIVE on the internet at www.tucsonsidewinders.com and on a tape delayed basis on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:00.
