Minnesota United FC vs. Los Angeles Football Club
March 15, 2024 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Minnesota United returns home to Allianz Field this weekend and hosts Los Angeles Football Club, one of the top-performing Western Conference sides the past few seasons. The Loons continue to fly high after starting the season unbeaten in three matches, last week completing a thrilling 3-2 comeback-victory against Orlando City SC.
Forward Teemu Pukki scored his first two goals of the 2024 campaign while attacker Bongokuhle Hlongwane scored the late game-winner to secure all three crucial points from the early-season road fixture.
The Southern California visitors enter this match having had a slower start to the season, including a 0-3 loss at Real Salt Lake in blizzard-like conditions, and most recently a 0-0 home draw against Sporting Kansas City. However, the results don't reflect the talent, as 2023 Golden Boot winner Dennis Bouanga returns and is the most lethal part of the LAFC attack.
But, the Loons high-press success to start the season could prove to be a handful for Los Angeles, and could additionally test new Black & Gold goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. It'll all be up for grabs for both sides, as Minnesota looks to capture a first home victory of the year and remain unbeaten, while LAFC seeks to leave with a better road result than their RSL trip a few weeks ago.
MIDFIELDER HASSANI DOTSON ON FACING LAFC THIS WEEKEND...
"There's no secret that we have tried to become a high pressing team. Even though they [LAFC] had a bit of a slow start, we know the quality players they have and the threat they can have towards their opposition."
MIFDIELDER ROBIN LOD ON MNUFC'S NEAR FULL, HEALTHY ROSTER FOR SATURDAY...
"It's good to get all the players available. We have a good group of guys and a lot of quality so it's good for the competition as well. Everybody has to be on their toes. I'm waiting for them to be fully fit and fight for the spots."
