Minnesota Lynx Center Sylvia Fowles Named AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022 Co-Captain and Starter

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The WNBA today announced Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles was voted as a starter for the AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022 by fans, WNBA players and a media panel. Fowles will also serve as a co-captain for the first time in her career in honor of her 15th and final season in the WNBA. This will mark the eighth time (fifth straight) Fowles has been selected as an All-Star (fifth as a member of the Lynx).
This year the WNBA has selected Fowles and Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird as co-captains in honor of their retirements upon conclusion of the 2022 season and to commemorate their legendary careers spanning almost two decades. They join Seattle forward Breanna Stewart and Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson who will also serve as co-captains as the two All-Star starters who finished with the most fan voting. Fowles will be paired with Stewart while Bird will be paired with Wilson.
This year marks the 10th consecutive time the Lynx have had a representative at the All-Star Game (2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022).
The 2021 Defensive Player of the Year is averaging 16.5 points on a league-best 64.1% shooting, 10.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Despite missing the last five games due to a right knee injury, Fowles currently leads the WNBA in field goal accuracy and rebounding and is ninth in blocks per game. Fowles has tallied six double-doubles this season, extending her league-record to 186 in her career. Additionally, Fowles is the WNBA all-time leader in rebounding (3,835), defensive rebounding (2,743) and field goal percentage (59.8%). She ranks fourth all-time in blocks (699) and tenth in all-time scoring (6181).
The 18th WNBA All-Star Game will take place in Chicago on Sunday, July 10 at Wintrust Arena. ABC will televise the game live at 12:00 p.m. CT.
