Las Vegas Aces News Release
New York, NY - The WNBA announced today that A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young have been named starters for AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022. The All-Star Game is being played at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, home of the Chicago Sky, on Sunday, July 10. Tip on ABC is 10 am PT.
This is the fourth All-Star nod for Wilson, who was named Western Conference Player of the Month for May, and is a three-time Western Conference Player of the Week honoree this year. She ranks fifth in the league in scoring (18.4), second in rebounding (9.6), 12th in field goal percentage (.507), and second in blocked shots (2.44).
Wilson is also serving as one of the All-Star co-captains after finishing as one of the top two vote-getters. Seattle Storm forward Breanna Stewart also finished in the top two, and will serve as another co-captain. They are being joined as co-captains by Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles and Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird, who both have announced their retirement at the conclusion of the 2022 season. Bird will be paired with Wilson. Fowles will be paired with Stewart.
Kelsey Plum is making her first All-Star appearance, and was named Western Conference Player of the Week on June 6. She is averaging career highs in scoring (20.3, 2nd in the W), and assists (6.0, 5th), and ranks first in the league in made three-pointers (50), 10th in three-point field goal percentage (.410), and 14th in free throw percentage (.848).
Jackie Young is also making her All-Star debut, and is averaging career highs in scoring (18.2, 7th), three-point field goal percentage (.457, 5th), and steals (1.50, 9th). She also ranks 14th in assists (3.9), 13th in field goal percentage (.503), and 17th in free throw percentage (.839).
Additional AT&T All-Star Game starters are Connecticut Sun forward Jonquel Jones, Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike, Chicago Sky forward-center Candace Parker, and New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu.
Voting will now begin for the 12 reserves for AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022, which will be selected by the league's head coaches, and will be announced on Tuesday, June 28. Coaches will vote for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position regardless of conference. They may not vote for their own players. If a player is unable to play in AT&T WNBA All-Star 2022 for any reason, a replacement player will be named to the roster by Commissioner Engelbert.
The co-captains will select their respective All-Star rosters during ESPN's broadcast of the WNBA All-Star Team Selection Special on Saturday, July 2 (12 pm PT), choosing first from the remaining pool of eight starters and then from the pool of 12 reserves.
