Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - For the first time in his three year professional career Jonathan Miller tossed a complete game shutout and the Freedom won 1-0 over the Evansville Otters Monday night.

Miller gave up a leadoff single to Josh Howard to start the first and didn't allow another Otter hit until the seventh inning.

It was the Freedom second straight shutout after blanking the Miners 10-0 on Sunday night at Rent One Park. It was the first complete game shutout by a Freedom pitcher this season.

The right-hander threw 132 pitches and was uncertain if he'd have a chance to complete the game as the Otters put a man in scoring position with one out in the ninth with it only being a one run lead.

Manager Toby Rumfield came out to the mound with two relievers warming up for the Freedom in the bullpen, but after a pep talk the skipper stuck with his starter and Miller fanned Cameron Satterwhite to end the game.

Justin Pickett drove home the only run as the Freedom manufactured a run in the fourth. Billy Mottram singled leading off, went to second on a ground ball, advanced to third on a stolen base and scored on Pickett's sacrifice fly to center.

That was enough for Miller (2-1) as he allowed only three hits while striking out five.

The Freedom (25-26) have tossed 21 consecutive shutout innings dating back to the middle game of their Southern Illinois Miner series.
