Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums dropped a 5-1 contest to the Rockford RiverHawks in the opener of a three-game series despite a quality outing from Brett Bostelman at Wuerfel Park on Monday night.
Traverse City jumped on the board first with a run in the fifth inning to give Bostelman the lead. Brian Lapin led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a groundout. Brandon McArthur worked the count full before singling into center off Rockford starter Brett Durand to score Lapin from second.
The lead held until the seventh inning. Rockford got a leadoff double by Jason James and Brandon Cohen followed by tripling to center to tie the game. Cohen scored on an RBI single by Ross McCoy against a drawn in infield that put Rockford ahead 2-1. The RiverHawks would add three runs in the ninth to pad the lead against the Beach Bums bullpen on a bases loaded double by Doug Sanders.
Brett Bostelman contributed a quality start for the Beach Bums but took the loss. Bostelman retired the first 12 hitters of the game before a Brandon Cohen single to begin the fifth. He threw seven innings and allowed just two runs on five hits to go with no walks and three strikeouts. Rockford's Brett Durand was just as good, retiring 11 in a row from the end of the first inning until the fifth. Durand pitched eight innings and limited the Beach Bums to just three hits to nab the win.
The Beach Bums will continue the series with Rockford tomorrow night in a 7:05pm contest. RHP David Dinelli (0-2, 6.94) will start for the Beach Bums against Rockford's LHP Matt Enderle on Pepsi Night
