Trenton Thunder News Release

(Manchester, NH) - Adam Miller pitched 4.1 shutout innings in his first start in four years while Cody Johnson hit two RBI doubles as the Trenton Thunder beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-1, Saturday night to clinch a series win. Miller, in his first appearance since being sent from AAA Scranton, allowed four hits and struck out one before reaching his pitch count limit in the fifth.

Johnson's first RBI two-base hit came in the top of the first against New Hampshire starter Randy Boone (0-2), who allowed hits to three of the first four Trenton batters then left the game with an injury. Dan Brewer increased the lead to 2-0 in the fourth with an RBI single off of Danny Farquhar.

In the fifth inning Corban Joseph singled with one out against Farquhar, his third hit of the game, and moved to second on a groundout by David Adams. Johnson then looped another double to the opposite field to score Joseph and make the score 3-0. Johnson has an eight-game hitting streak during which he has 11 RBI.

Preston Claiborne (2-0) threw two scoreless relief innings in the seventh and eighth and was awarded the victory since Miller didn't last the necessary five innings to quality. Ryan Flannery pitched around a two-out single in the ninth to record his fifth save, his first one since May 3.

Kevin Mahoney went 0-for-4 and saw his consecutive on-base streak end at 25 games.

The Thunder will go for the series sweep in game three of the series on Sunday with first pitch slated for 1:35 pm. Lefty Shaeffer Hall (3-4) will start for Trenton, while righty Joel Carreno (0-0) will pitch for New Hampshire. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 1:20 pm.
