Game #41 - Sunday, May 20, 2012

Hadlock Field - Portland, ME - 1:00 PM

LAST GAME: Pedro Zapata hammered a two-out solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to lead the B-Mets in a come-from-behind victory over the Portland Sea Dogs yesterday at Hadlock Field. Trailing 1-0 in the eighth, the B-Mets scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Raul Reyes. Portland stroked two homers in the eighth against Darin Gorski to cut the deficit to one. Jeremy Hazelbaker forced extras with a sac fly against Brad Holt in the ninth. Adrian Rosario tossed a perfect tenth inning to collect his first save. Jenrry Mejia allowed one run over three innings in his first start with the B-Mets since August 2010.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Greg Peavey (2-1, 5.45) makes his eighth start of the season and third against the Portland Sea Dogs. The righty allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings in a no-decision in his previous start against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 13. In consecutive starts against the Sea Dogs in April, Peavey went 1-0 with a 5.19 ERA, allowing an opponents' batting average of .333. A sixth-round draft pick out of Oregon State University, he split last season between the Savannah Sand Gnats (Low-A) and St. Lucie Mets (High-A).

RHP Chris Balcom-Miller (2-3, 5.30) takes the mound for his team-leading ninth start of the season. The California native dropped his last start against the Trenton Thunder on May 13. He allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five over four innings of work. In two starts against the B-Mets, Balcom-Miller has gone 0-2 with a 24.55 ERA. The B-Mets have hit .476 against him, including two home runs. Originally drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 6th round of the 2009 draft out of West Valley College (CA), Balcom-Miller was traded to the Red Sox for Manny Delcarmen in August 2010.

COMEBACK KIDS: Yesterday's game was Binghamton's first win of the season when trailing after seven innings. It was also their first win in an extra-inning game.

THIEVERY: The B-Mets set a new season-high with four stolen bases yesterday against Portland catcher Matt Spring. Matt den Dekker stole two and Eric Campbell and Jefry Marte each swiped one. Spring has now thrown out just three of 32 attempted base stealers this season.

BIDDING FOR THE SERIES WIN: A win today would secure Binghamton's third-straight series win. They have won their last two rubber matches and have gone 2-2 in rubber match games this season.

SNAPPING OUT OF IT: Before their five-run eighth inning yesterday, the B-Mets had not scored a run and gone 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position in the first 16 innings of the series.

SMOOTH ON SUNDAYS: The Binghamton Mets are 5-0 on Sundays this season. They defeated the Sea Dogs 9-2 on Sunday, April 15 at Hadlock Field. It was a game that pitted Greg Peavey and Chris Balcom-Miller against each other.

STRETCHING THE STREAK: Matt den Dekker singled to start yesterday's game, extending his hitting streak to a career-high 14 games. It was the fourth time during the streak that den Dekker has collected a hit in his first at bat. The outfielder has reached base safely in 24-straight games, the longest active streak in the Eastern League.

FAMILIAR MATCHUP: Greg Peavey and Chris Balcom-Miller match up for the third time this season. The B-Mets won both meets with a 9-2 win on April 15 and a 7-5 victory on April 20. Peavey earned the win in the first meeting and took a no-decision in the second. Balcom-Miller suffered the loss in both contests.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets head to Connecticut to start a four-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats tomorrow night at 6:35 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the mound for Binghamton against RHP Steve Hirschfeld.
