Mikolas Twirls Seven Innings in Win over Cedar Rapids

Peoria, IL - Cardinals rehabber Miles Mikolas went seven innings and at one point retired 15 in a row in a 7-3 win over Cedar Rapids Saturday.
Mikolas made his fifth rehab start since July 24 and threw 86 pitches, the most in any of his rehab outings.
Cedar Rapids tallied an early run off of Mikolas before he settled in. Back-to-back singles led off the contest for the Kernels and a run scored on a groundout. From there, Mikolas flexed his muscle and did not allow another baserunner until the sixth inning.
In the fourth, the Chiefs provided some offense. A Leandro Cedeno single scored Jordan Walker to knot the game at 1-1. The next batter was Zade Richardson, who connected on his eighth home run of the year to give the Chiefs their first lead. It was the second game in a row that Richardson went yard.
In the bottom of the fifth, Masyn Winn, the Cardinals fifth-ranked prospect, manufactured a run on his own. Winn reached on a two-out single, stole second, swiped third and scored on a throwing error. As a team, the Chiefs stole five bags, tied for a season-high.
In the sixth frame, Cedar Rapids had their best chance at a rally. A two-out single from Matt Wallner scored a pair of runs, and the Kernels pulled within 4-3 of Mikolas and the Chiefs. The 32-year-old hurler rebounded with a 1-2-3 seventh inning and finished his night with eight strikeouts.
The Chiefs put the game in the win column with a three-run bottom of the seventh. After back-to-back doubles from Tyler Reichenborn and Tommy Jew, Winn added some damage with the bat, as he poked one into right to score a pair. The Chiefs chipped in an additional run on an infield single from Richardson.
Mac Lardner, who was originally scheduled to start Saturday, picked up the slack and recorded the final six outs for Peoria.
The series finale is scheduled for tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. Right-hander Connor Lunn will toe the rubber for the Chiefs.
