
Mike Egener Named Assistant Coach

Red Deer Rebels News Release
RED DEER - Brent Sutter, President and General Manager of the Red Deer Rebels, announced today the hiring of Mike Egener as Assistant Coach. Mike joins the Rebels from the OHA Hockey Academy in Penticton, where he currently serves as Head Coach of the U15 AAA team.
Egener, a defensemen picked in the 2nd round of the 2003 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, played for the Calgary Hitmen from 2000-2004. After a 6 year career in the AHL and ECHL, he finished his pro career in 2015 following a 3 year stint with the Coventry Blaze of the EIHL (UK). In 2017 he joined the OHA Academy as their U-15 Head Coach. He is the bother of former Rebels defensemen Luke Egener.
Mike joins a Rebels coaching staff that includes newly hired Head Coach Steve Konowalchuk, Assistant Coach Ryan Colville, and Skills Coach Erik Lodge.
