Mighty Marty Returns to OKC
July 27, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed veteran forward Marty Standish, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Standish, a 5-8, 175-pound native of Kelvington, Saskatchewan is entering his seventh full season in the professional ranks, his sixth with Oklahoma City. During the 04-05 campaign, he skated with the Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League. With the Mallards, Standish registered 48 points (15-33-48) while serving a career high 200 penalty minutes in 65 games.
Standish enters the 05-06 season ranked in the top seven in several categories on the Blazers all-time list. He ranks fifth in goals scored (126), sixth in points scored (282), seventh in assists (156), fifth in power-play goals (36), fourth in short-handed goals (8), fourth in game-winning goals (21), third in shots on goal (1,156). Standish also has a feisty side. He ranks sixth all-time in penalty minutes (688) and fourth in minor penalties (213). He was a member of the 2000-01 CHL champion Blazers team.
"I'm looking forward to returning to Oklahoma City," said Standish. "I missed playing here. The fans are great and I look forward to contributing both on and off the ice. I enjoyed last season playing in Quad City, but Oklahoma City is where I want to be."
"I'm glad to have Marty back in Oklahoma City," said Sauter. "Last season I thought that we lacked a bit of color and pizzazz up front. Marty can help fill that role, in addition to hustling, scoring key goals and being a leader. He was one of Quad City's best players last season down the stretch. A season away from Oklahoma City has made him excited to return to the Blazers and hungry to win."
Standish is the third veteran player signed by the Blazers for the 05-06 season. Each CHL team is permitted to have four players on their roster with 260-or-more games played.
The addition of Standish brings the number of players signed for the 05-06 season to seven. He joins Tyler Fleck, Garrett Prosofsky, Kahlil Thomas, Jason Goulet, Brad Herauf and goaltender Sean Connors on the Blazers roster.
NOTE: The Oklahoma City Blazers will kick off their 2005-06 campaign at home on Friday, October 21 against the Fort Worth Brahmas at 7:35 p.m. The Blazers will conclude their opening weekend on the road against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 p.m. The entire 64-game schedule will be released tomorrow.
