Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TX: July 27, 2005 - The Central Hockey League (CHL) released the home openers for each of the 15 franchises and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees will open the season at home on Friday, October 21st with a pair of back-to-back contests against the Southwest Division champion Lubbock Cotton Kings.
The home opener will mark the first time the Bees have opened the season on the frozen home ice of the Dodge Arena in franchise history, and they will look for their first ever opening night victory. The Cotton Kings, who ended a three-year playoff absence last season, will break their tradition by coming to the Valley for the CHL's 13th opening weekend. In their previous six seasons dating back to their inaugural 99/00 season, the Cotton Kings have battled the Amarillo Gorillas (and formerly known as the Rattlers) and have a 3-2-1 in those contests. Rio Grande Valley opened their inaugural campaign in 03/04 with a 3-1 road loss in San Angelo and opened last season's schedule on the road in Austin with a 5-2 loss.
The remainder of the CHL regular season schedule, which will consist of 32 home games and 32 road games for a total of 64 games, will be released Thursday afternoon by the CHL league offices. Any questions in regards to the Bees schedule can be made by contacting Chris Due at 956-843-7825, and any questions for league representatives can be made by contacting CHL Vice President, Communications Steve Cherwonak at 480-949-8600.
The Killer Bees will swarm the Dodge Arena on October 21st against the Lubbock Cotton Kings to open the 2005/2006 season. Season tickets and corporate opportunities are now available by calling the Killer Bees office at (956) 843-7825.
