MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday that midfielder and Designated Player Ignacio Piatti will undergo a bursectomy tonight in Argentina to treat tendinitis in his left knee.
"After consulting doctors in Montreal and in Argentina, Ignacio has decided to undergo this minor procedure in order to be ready for next season," said Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations Richard Legendre. "It is a procedure that is very often done amongst soccer players in Europe and South America, with a very high success rate."
The eight-week recovery period will enable Piatti to be ready for the start of training camp in 2015.
Following his arrival with the Impact in August, the Argentine midfielder tallied four goals and an assist in six starts in the regular season and two assists in two CONCACAF Champions League group stage games.
