FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution Under-16 defender Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) has been added to the United States Under-16 Boys' National Team roster for a camp in France later this month. Jones and the rest of the U.S. U-16s will train in Clairefontaine, France, near Paris, from November 13-21. While there, Jones, who joined the Revolution's inaugural U-14 team two years ago, and the rest of the U-16s will play against France's U-16s on November 20, while a second game may yet be scheduled against a French club team.
"Daniel has made terrific progress with us over the past two years and is excited about this invitation," Revolution director of youth development Bryan Scales said. "It is the ultimate honor for any player to wear their national team jersey and I'm sure Daniel will embrace this opportunity in France."
An attacking left back, Jones has played 10 games for the Revolution's Academy teams in the 2014-15 season. The 15-year-old has made seven starts with the Under-16 team in league play, tallying two assists, which leave him tied for the team lead. He has also made one start with the Revolution Under-18 team this season and played two games for the Revs at the Generation adidas cup, which is Major League Soccer's annual elite youth tournament for U-17 Academy teams.
Jones split his first two seasons in the Revolution Academy with the U-14s and U-16s, including 19 appearances with the U-16s during the 2013-14 Development Academy season. He scored seven goals between the two teams on the season, including three with the U-16s.
In August, Jones was selected to play on the MLS Eastern All-Star team at the Generation adidas ESP event in Portland, Ore. Jones traveled to train, play and compete against other talented MLS Academy players from across the United States, as well as Bayern Munich's Under-16 Academy team.
