(Florence, KY) - The Florence Freedom (25-31) scored two runs in the seventh to make a winner out of Dave Middendorf (4-5) in a 2-1 victory over the Rockford Aviators (25-33) Thursday night at UC Health Stadium.

Middendorf, an alumnus of Northern Kentucky University, tossed seven innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits and striking out five without walking a batter.

Early on it was a game of missed opportunities for Florence against Rockford starter Kyle Hassna as they loaded the bases twice, and once put runners at second and third with nobody out, without scoring.

In the sixth inning the Aviators took a 1-0 lead on a Michael Hur RBI single.

But in the seventh the Freedom rallied against Rockford reliever Eric Cendejas (0-1). Adam Taylor walked to start the inning. Gaby Juarbe tried to bunt him over but Taylor was thrown out at second for out number one. Then with two away, Buddy Sosnoskie delivered a RBI triple down the right field line to tie the game at one. Sam Eberle immediately followed with a single up the middle to drive in Sosnoskie and Florence grabbed a 2-1 lead.

Daniel DeSimone struck out the side in the eighth and Jorge Marban tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season.

Florence will look to win the series Friday night as Peter Gehle (3-3, 3.55 ERA) takes the hill. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. eastern time. Friday is Disney Night presented by Union Pediatric Dentistry. More information and tickets for this magical evening can be found here.
