NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, surged from a two-run deficit in the eighth inning and walked off with a 5-4 win over the Lake Erie Crushers on Thursday night at the Corn Crib.

The Crushers took a 1-0 lead on the game's first hitter as Juan Sanchez homered just over the left field fence.

The Belters broke through to grab a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the seventh inning when Richard Lucas and Ozney Guillen led off with singles, but the throw to the diamond on Guillen's hit went into the Crushers dugout to score Lucas. Guillen came home when pinch-hitter Santiago Chirino bounced a double just fair over the third base bag to put the Belters in front.

Lake Erie regained the lead right away in the eighth when Joey Burney led off with a walk, took second on a ground out and scored on a game-tying double to right by Sanchez, followed by an RBI single by Craig Hertler for a 3-2 advantage. Anderson Hidalgo then rolled a single up the middle to score Hertler for a 4-2 Crushers lead.

The CornBelters evened the game in the eighth with a towering two-run home run to the sidewalk above the right field berm by Aaron Dudley.

The Belters walked off with the victory as Pat McKenna crushed a one-out triple to deep left center, and rookie Eric Anderson clubbed a single to the right field wall over the drawn-in outfield for the win.

Chris Carmain (1-0) pitched the ninth for his first professional win while Jason Wilson (6-3) took the loss.

The series continues on CEFCU Fireworks Friday with a 7 p.m. first pitch as the CornBelters give the ball to right-hander Corey MacDonald (3-1, 4.74 ERA) while the Crushers will send righty Mickey Jannis (2-4, 4.70) to the mound. All CornBelters games can be heard online at www.normalbaseball.com with Friday's pre-game beginning at 6:50. The series and home stand concludes on Saturday with another 7 p.m. first pitch.
