Slammers Lose Another Close One on Thursday, 7-6

Windy City struck for a run in the 1st inning against Kody McFarland. Three straight singles were capped by the RBI hit from Ryan McIntyre to make it 1-0. Joliet came right back with a pair of runs in the 2nd inning. Adam Giacalone walked, JD Dorgan singled and then Seth Granger was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Max Casper hit a grounder that was misplayed by shortstop Mike Torres and the game was tied 1-1. The Slammers then took the 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly from Chris Epps. They made that a 3-1 lead in the 4th off starter Jake Fisher with a Casper RBI double.

The ThunderBolts then put up four runs in the bottom of the 4th to knock McFarland out of the ballgame. They collected six hits with Garrett Carey's 2-run single the big hit of the frame. Evan Button and Kyle Robinson added RBI singles. Tyler Thicke came on in relief for Joliet. He retired the 1st 8 men he faced until he got into trouble in the 7th inning. After a walk, he allowed a RBI double to Ryan Soares and a run-scoring single to Davidson Peguero to give them seven runs on the day. For Joliet, they added a run in the 7th on DeBruin's double-play and then the Slammers put two more on the board in the 8th . Jose Garcia led off with a single and after a steal, Seth Granger's single scored him. Granger would then steal second and he would score on a single from Casper to make it 7-6. Danile Carela came on a picked up his 6th save for the ThunderBolts in the 9th. DeBruin entered the game tied for the league lead in hits with 79 and added three more in this game. Casper added three hits and two RBI. Joliet has now played in 26 one-run games and fall to 12-14 in those games.

The Slammers are in the middle of a six-game road trip to Windy City and then Traverse City. Tomorrow's game at Windy City starts at 7:05pm. Joliet will return for another six game home stand beginning Wednesday July 30th at 7:05pm. The Frontier Greys and Schaumburg Boomers will be the opposition. There will be a Fireworks Friday on August 1st that will also be Princess Night at Silver Cross Field. Slammers action this summer is broadcast live on 1340 WJOL and wjol.com.
