Grizzlies Fall to Otters in Series Finale

SAUGET, Ill. - The Evansville Otters hit four home runs in the first three innings of the game and cruised to an 11-3 win over the Gateway Grizzlies Thursday night at GCS Ballpark.

The loss was the Grizzlies (37-22) fifth straight at home. Gateway remains just a half game ahead of River City for first place in the West Division.

Evansville (34-22) picked up three home runs in the second inning. Nik Balog and Jeremy Nowak hit solo home runs while Josh Allen brought in two runs on a long ball.

After back-to-back walks to Shane Houck and Balog to start the third inning, Chris Sweeney blasted a three-run home run.

Gateway starting pitcher Aaron Newcomb (8-3) allowed all fours home runs in his three innings of work.

Evansville added an unearned run in the sixth inning and another run in the seventh on an Allen RBI single to make the score 9-0.

Gateway got on the board in the seventh inning, scoring three runs on two hits. Ben Waldrip drove in a run on a single and newcomer Josh Adams brought in two runs on a double.

A Phillip Wilson two-run double in the ninth inning gave the Otters an 11-3 lead.

Gateway and Evansville continue their series Friday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Tucker Jensen (6-2) will make the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05.
