Reno Aces News Release
Reno, NV - Despite a furious late rally, the Micheladas de Reno Aces (29-25, 73-56) had trouble taming the furious El Paso Margaritas (24-30, 56-73) offense in a 12-8 loss Thursday night at Greater Nevada Field.
The Aces put together a torrid threat in a seven run ninth inning, starting with a two run tape measure homer from Jordan Lawlar. Reno kept the line moving behind multi-hit nights from Lawlar, Jake McCarthy, Kyle Lewis, Tristin English, Ali Sánchez, and Diego Castillo. The BLC Nine tallied 17 knocks and went 5-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
Lewis got the Aces on the board in the first with an RBI single. That lone run held through until the ninth, when Reno trailed 12-1 and made one of their best comeback attempts of the season. Kyle Backhus held the Margaritas off the board for 1 1/3 innings in relief. Backhus has been lights out for Reno since his promotion from Double-A Amarillo, firing 3 1/3 scoreless frames with two strikeouts.
Reno holds a 2-1 series lead heading into the weekend and hopes to get that ninth inning offense for the rest of the set. The Aces and Chihuahuas continue their six-game set Friday night at 6:35 p.m. PT from Greater Nevada Field.
