The Checkers jumped in front in the first period via the power play. =46ollowing a Jeremy Yablonski defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti held the puck in the Sound Tigers zone. His cross-ice pass at the blue line found Bryan Rodney who fired a shot towards the Sound Tigers net. Jacob Micflikier was camped out in front and deflected the shot past Bridgeport goalie Nathan Lawson for his fifth goal of the season to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead.

With just under four minutes remaining in the period the Sound Tigers would tie the score. Defenseman Dustin Kohn made a breakout pass from his own blue line to Tony Romano who slipped in past the Charlotte defense. Romano skated in on Charlotte netminder Justin Pogge and flipped a shot between Pogge's pads for his second goal of the season to tie the game at one heading to the first intermission.

Jacob Mikflikier continued his one-man offensive onslaught in the second period. Similar to the first Charlotte goal, it was Sanguinetti to Rodney with a shot that was knocked down and found by Micflikier. The Winnipeg, MAN native put the rebound past Lawson for his second goal of the night and Charlotte had a 2-1 lead at the 5:32 mark of the second period. Less than four minutes later, Mikflikier scored his third of the game after Oskar Osala's shot hit a Sound Tigers defenseman and went right to his stick. The awkward deflection caught Lawson off guard and Mikflikier put it home for the first hat trick in the Charlotte Checkers AHL's history as they had the 3-1 lead heading to the final period.

Charlotte sealed the deal in the third period with three goals less than three minutes apart. First it was Zac Dalpe on the power play with a rebound to Lawson's left to make the score 4-1 at the 5:56 mark. Zach Boychuk made it 5-1 after Chris Terry kept the puck in the Sound Tigers zone and flipped the puck to Boychuk who was all alone and lifted the puck over Lawson. 27 seconds later Jerome Samson netted his 10th goal of the season to round out the scoring and the Checkers skated away with the 6-1 win.
