MetroStars Close Home Portion of Regular Season Schedule with Loss to Utica City FC
March 22, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Mississauga MetroStars News Release
On the strength of three power play goals in the second quarter, the visiting Utica City FC spoiled the Mississauga MetroStars last home game of their inaugural season, beating their expansion MASL Eastern Division rivals 6-1 Friday night at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga, ON.
? ?The visitors jumped out to an early lead, just 6:14 into the first quarter, when Mohamed Kenawy took a pass from Liam Callahan and beat MetroStars keeper Adrian Becic with a right foot shot to the far post.
? ?Mississauga got into penalty trouble in the second quarter, earning four consecutive blue cards and Utica took advantage of the MetroStars' lack of discipline, scoring three goals on the power play. Freddy Moojen hit the first at 5:44, knocking in a rebound off the end boards. Darren Toby scored the second power play goal, Utica's third of the game, with just 1:30 left to play. Jake Schindler completed the first half scoring for Utica, tapping in at the far post to give the visitors a 4-0 lead at halftime.
? ?Utica added a fifth goal midway through the third quarter when captain Nate Bourdeau collected a rebound and beat Becic from close range to net his ninth goal of the season. MetroStars forward Mo Babouli came close to scoring with just over 2:00 left in the quarter when his shot hit the underside of the crossbar and stayed out.
? ?But the hosts finally got on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter when a Josh Paredes pass found Raheem Rose, who turned past a defender and struck a shot that beat Utica keeper Andrew Coughlin.
? ?Then, with just over a minute to play in the game and Mississauga using Babouli as a sixth attacker, Bourdeau hit for his second of the game and tenth of the season to complete the scoring.
? ?With the victory, Utica City FC improves to 14-6 while Mississauga falls to 4-16. The MetroStars travel to Baltimore to face another Eastern Division rival, the Blast at the SECU Arena Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is 3:00pm (EDT).
