Memphis Makes History in 24-7 Win

Memphis, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds (40-61) had a memorable, record-setting night as they won 24-7 over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (58-43) before 5,822 at AutoZone Park Sunday night.

Memphis set team records with 24 runs and 24 hits. They also tied a Pacific Coast League record, becoming just the third team in league history to hit two grand slams in one inning.

Pete Kozma and Steven Hill each left the yard with the bases loaded in fourth. The Redbirds have hit three grand slams the last two nights. They came into the series with two grand slams for the entire season.

Memphis scored in the first on a two-run homer by Mark Hamilton. Leading 2-1, the Redbirds scored five unearned runs in the second to take command. They blew the game open with the eight-run fourth, jumping out to a 16-2 lead.

The Redbirds also scored one in the fifth and poured on seven more in the eighth.

Hill had a perfect 5-for-5 night with five RBIs. Kozma went 4-for-6 and also drove in five. Ryan Jackson added four hits, and Hamilton finished with four RBIs.

Brad Snyder and Travis Buck each homered for the RedHawks. Jordan Kreke led the team with three hits, including an RBI triple. He also pitched a scoreless and hitless eighth inning.

Brandon Barnes, Jimmy Paredes, and Angel Sanchez finished with two hits each.

Memphis starter Brandon Dickson didn't need all the run support, allowing two runs and seven hits over six innings. Dickson (5-8) struck out seven with one walk.

RedHawks pitcher Paul Clemens (8-8) had another rough night, allowing a season-high eight runs-only three earned-and 10 hits over three innings.

The RedHawks will try and avoid the sweep when they finish their series in Memphis Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340.
