Iowa Cubs News Release
Albuquerque, NM - The Chicago Cubs recalled LH Jeff Beliveau today and optioned RH Rafael Dolis to Iowa. Dolis isn't expected to join the I-Cubs in time for tonight's game in Albuquerque. RH Ty'Relle Harris returns to the I-Cubs today and will be available out of the bullpen for tonight's game against the Isotopes.
This is Beliveau's first call-up to the major leagues and he made his debut in St. Louis this afternoon against the Cardinals with an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief. Beliveau was 4-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 34 games with Iowa this season. In 40 innings, he allowed 42 hits, walked 17, and struck out 47 in his first year at Triple-A. This was his first season at triple-A. Last year, Beliveau was named the Chicago Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year after combining to go 5-2 with a 1.57 ERA and five saves in 53 games between high-A Daytona and double-A Tennessee. He was added to the Cubs' 40-man roster and pitched for Team USA in the World Cup and Pan Am Games this off-season. The Cubs drafted Beliveau in the 18th round of the 2008 draft out of Florida Atlantic University.
Harris began the season at Daytona and was 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 16 games before getting promoted to Tennessee on May 25. In his two stints with the Smokies this season, Harris was 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 13 games (one start). He spent a week with Iowa from June 8-15 and was 0-1 with a 1.69 ERA in two games. He also made one appearance with Iowa last season. Harris was one of three pitchers the Cubs acquired from the Atlanta Braves for 1B Derek Lee in 2010. He was drafted by the Braves in the 19th round of the 2009 draft out of the University of Tennessee.
The Cubs play game three of a four-game series in Albuquerque tonight at 7:05 pm Central time. RH Chris Volstad (2-4, 5.55) will start for the Cubs against RH Stephen Fife (7-5, 4.53) for the 'Topes. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
