July 12, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Memphis 901 FC News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Fresh off a victory against Hartford Athletic last Saturday, Memphis 901 FC journeys to Charleston, S.C., to face Charleston Battery tomorrow night at 6:30 (CT).
901 FC exploded for four goals in its win last week, which vaulted the club three spots in the league table. It was Memphis' second four-goal performance in its last six competitions and was highlighted by Elliot Collier's hat trick.
With his hat trick last Saturday, Collier wrote his name in the 901 FC record books for the second time this season. In addition to now having the first hat trick in club history to his name, Collier scored the first goal in AutoZone Park history earlier this season against Loudoun United FC on March 16. That goal tied the match at 1 and also gave Memphis its first point in team history.
Memphis and Charleston faced off earlier this season at AutoZone Park, with the Battery taking a 1-0 victory on April 27. The previous match against Charleston was Jochen Graf's team debut and Cam Lindley's second match with 901 FC, and since then the club has also added playmakers Lagos Kunga and Brandon Allen as the offense has begun opening up.
Memphis has scored 17 goals in its last 10 matches, which is more than double the club's output through its first 10 matches of the season (8). The recent stretch includes five multi-goal performances where the club went 4-0-1. Memphis had just two multi-goal showings in its first 10 matches and did not win either outing.
With three points on Saturday, coupled with favorable results ahead of it in the table, 901 FC could jump two more spots in the league standings after vaulting three spots, from 17th to 14th, after last Saturday's win over Hartford Athletic. Currently, just seven points separate the 11th-16th teams in the standings.
901 FC Sporting Director Andrew Bell is returning to Charleston tomorrow, where he spent nearly 20 years with the Battery. Bell began working for the Battery as its radio play-by-play announcer in 1999. He served in a variety of roles for the team, including Director of Marketing, Director of Sales, and President, which was the role he held most recently from 2008 until moving to head Memphis' USL franchise. During his tenure as Battery President, the club won two USL championships in 2010 and 2012 and advanced to the final of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2008.
After tomorrow's match, 901 FC returns to AutoZone Park for three-straight matches through the end of July, beginning with the "Defend Memphis" match against Nashville SC Wednesday night at 7:30. 901 FC is also home on Saturday, July 20 against New York Red Bulls II and Saturday, July 27 against Ottawa Fury FC.
The first 1,000 fans at next week's Nashville SC match will receive an exclusive green "Defend Memphis" t-shirt in the team's font with the crest on the chest, compliments of Terminix.
Tickets for the remainder of the season are available at www.memphis901fc.com/tickets.
