Medina, Muich Roll Over Dogs
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts won their third straight game on Friday night, beating the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-2 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Gabe Medina allowed two runs on just three hits in seven innings of work while striking out six to earn his third win in his last four starts. The right hander allowed two runs in the first inning and shut the Saltdogs down from the second through the seventh innings.
Trailing 2-0 in the first, the Wingnuts took advantage of a pair of walks from Lincoln starter Vince Davis. With two on and two out, Joe Muich crushed a three-run home run off the scoreboard in left field to put the Wingnuts in front 3-2 on just one swing.
In the third, Wichita broke the game open. Nick Blasi leadoff with a double to right center, and then scored on an RBI single by Josh Horn. Two batters later, Kelly Hunt hit a towering home run over the upper fence in left field to make it 6-2 Wichita.
Medina's strong start kept the Wingnuts in front the rest of the night. Richard Salazar came out of the bullpen and pitched scoreless baseball in the eighth and ninth to finish off the win.
Game two of the series takes place tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Adam Cowart goes for the Wingnuts against Lincoln righty Brian Campbell. The Wingnuts host their first Multi-Cultural Night, presented by the Midwest Transplant Network. Fireworks will follow Saturday night's game, presented by Journal Broadcast Group.
