Sioux City Explorers News Release

St. Paul, MN.....The Sioux City Explorers extended their winning streak to three games with a 6-5 win over St. Paul Friday at Midway Stadium.

The three game winning streak is the longest of the season for the Explorers.

The Explorers were led by Justin Nelson who went two for four with three RBI's, including his third home run of the season.

Trailing 3-1 after two innings, the Explorers sent nine batters to the plate in the third inning, scoring four runs. A double by Anthony Webster scored Bo Whitaker with the tying run and Nick McCoola scored on a wild pitch by losing pitcher Adam Cox that gave the X's the lead for good.

Steve Spurgeon pitched five innings to pick up his third win of the year while Griffin Bailey pitched three innings and gave up only one hit in middle relief. Bailey got out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh when he got the American Association third leading hitter Ole Sheldon to fly out to end the threat. Brett Reid retired the Saints in order in the ninth inning to record his seventh save of the season. The three Sioux City pitchers combined for a total of 14 strikeouts in the contest.

The Explorers and St. Paul will meet in the second game of the three-game series Saturday at 7:05pm.
