Everett Silvertips News Release

MEDICINE HAT, Alberta - Riley Sutter scored his first career WHL goal, with family in attendance, but back-to-back tallies in the second period helped the Medicine Hat Tigers hold off the Everett Silvertips, 2-1 before 4,202 fans at the new Canalta Centre on Friday night.

Sutter lifted the Silvertips to a 1-0 lead in the first period and Carter Hart, returning to play after his first night off of the season on Wednesday at Lethbridge, made 23 saves. He carried back-to-back shutouts into the game and had his scoreless streak snapped at 154:57, spanning back to Nov. 13 against Spokane. Cole Sanford netted the game-winner in the second period.

The Silvertips seized a 1-0 lead on the first power play of the game, on Sutter's re-direction at the goal mouth with 3:30 left in the period, courtesy Dawson Leedahl's feed from the left goal line.

Medicine Hat, just 2-7-2 when trailing after one period, found life on Chad Butcher's shorthanded breakaway goal at 9:49 of the second when he stripped the puck at the Silvertips blueline and raced away before beating Hart under the crossbar.

Butcher then helped set up Sanford's go-ahead goal with less then a minute left in the period, when he and Ty Stanton whipped the puck to Sanford's tape, stationed at the left circle. With 53.1 seconds remaining, Sanford stepped into a wrister that found the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season.

Hart made two remarkable saves early in the third when Medicine Hat threatened on a two-man advantage and the Silvertips staged one last push with under a minute remaining, but had their best look foiled when Medicine Hat's defense and starting goaltender Nick Schneider were able to cover the puck on a scramble at the crease.
