
Royals Rally to Beat Giants

Vancouver, BC- The Victoria Royals came back from a 3-0 deficit with an explosive four goal middle frame to take down the Vancouver Giants 5-4 on Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum.
Victoria entered the second period trailing 3-0, before Matthew Phillips cued the comeback when he scored early in the frame. Victoria would receive goals from Dante Hannoun and Alex Forsberg to tie the contest. Jack Walker netted the fourth goal to give the Royals their first lead of the game. Vancouver's Chase Lang tied the contest in the third period, before Victoria's Ryan Gagnon scored the game winner. The Giants' David Brumm, Tyler Benson and Carter Popoff notched the other markers for the home team.
Royals' defenceman Joe Hicketts recorded an assist in the win to surpass former Chilliwack Bruin Brandon Manning for the most points by a defender in franchise history. Hicketts has tallied 137 points (25g-112a) in his 190 game career, while Manning recorded 136 points (45g-91a) in the 200 contests he played in with the Bruins.
The Royals started Coleman Vollrath in goal who made five saves on the eight shots he faced in the first period. Griffen Outhouse got the nod in the second period for Victoria and stopped 16 of the 17 shots directed his way. Giants' netminder Ryan Kubic turned aside 23 of 28 shots.
Victoria went 0/100.0% on the powerplay, whereas Vancouver would go 1/333.3% with the man-advantage.
The Royals will wrap up their two game road trip tomorrow night in Kennewick, WA when they take on the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 p.m.
