Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals' Tanner Kaspick scored a pair of goals, which included the overtime winner, to earn a 4-3 victory over the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

Notes:

Starting Strong - With Noah Gregor's opening goal tonight, Victoria has now improved to 20-8-1-0 when they score the first tally. Gregor has opened the scoring on three occasions this season, which is the second-most among all Royals' skaters.

Potent Powerplay - After tonight's game, the Royals boast the top powerplay in the WHL while at home. Victoria has scored 41 goals on home ice with the man-advantage and hold a 29.3% mark. Over their past 10 home games, the Royals have earned a mark of 17/50=34.0%.

Record Chaser - With an assist tonight, Matthew Phillips tied the Royals record for most points in a season at 91 (41g-50a). The record was originally set by alumnus Alex Forsberg (31g-60a) in the 2015-16 season. The franchise mark is currently held by former Chilliwack Bruin Mark Santorelli who scored 101 points (27g-74a) in 2007-08.

New Kids on the Block - The Royals have scored 61 goals in their 14 games since the WHL Trade Deadline. Of those 61 goals, 26/61=42.6% have been scored by players acquired during the season. Tanner Kaspick leads Victoria with eight tallies, while Jeff de Wit sits in second with five.

Home Sweet Home - With their win tonight, Victoria has now earned nine straight wins on home ice and out scored their opponents 48-21. The Royals' 20 wins on home ice this season are the fourth-most in the WHL.

Streaking Skaters - Victoria had three skaters extend their point streaks in tonight's game. Matthew Phillips has 32 points (13g-19a) over his past 17 games and has tied the franchise record for longest point streak, which he set at the start of the season. Tyler Soy meanwhile, has 13 points (5g-8a) in his past five contests and Dante Hannoun has earned eight points (1g-7a) over his last three games.

Coming Up - Victoria will now head to Kelowna to face the Rockets on Monday with puck drop for 2:05 p.m. The Royals will return home on Wednesday to kick off a five-game homestand against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
