February 11, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Carter Hart earned his 26th career shutout, tying the WHL record, while tying the Everett Silvertips' record for most wins by a goaltender (Leland Irving) with his 107th win as the Silvertips defeated the Vancouver Giants, 5-0 in front of a crowd of 5,982 at the Angel of the Winds Arena.

Nine different Silvertips players were on the scoresheet tonight and we saw Ian Walker's first career WHL goal as well as Ethan O'Rourke's first goal as a Silvertip. Sean Richards, Matt Fonteyne, and Bryce Kindopp also supplied goals for the Silvertips.

UP NEXT: The Tips visit the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday, 5:05 pm at Spokane Arena (1380 AM / WHL Live). The Tips return home Feb. 17 for Local Heroes Night, 7:05 p.m. against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/ticketcentral.

The first period saw a great 200 foot game by both teams as there were lots of chances, but both Hart and counterpart David Tendeck were strong in net. The game was heated from the get go as we saw numerous scrums throughout the first period; the period ended with a line brawl between the two teams.

The second period settled down and both teams were able to stay out of the box. Ethan O'Rourke broke the scoreless tie at 11:34 with a tap in thanks to a great pass by Spencer Gerth for his first goal as a Silvertip and the first goal of the evening to make it 1-0 Tips. Less than three minutes later, Sean Richards buried a deflection off the rush from Patrick Bajkov to make it 2-0 Tips. At the end of the period with 5.8 seconds left, the Tips got another puck past Tendeck on a Garrett Pilon wraparound but the referees could not determine that the puck completely crossed the goal line and it was waved off. The period ended with a 2-0 Tips lead.

The third period was all Tips as Vancouver was only able to register four shots the entire 20 minutes. Matt Fonteyne got his 31st goal of the season with help from Richards and Bajkov to make it 3-0 Tips at 1:19. Shortly after that, Ian Walker scored his first career WHL goal on a scrum at the net with assistance from O'Rourke and Fasko-Rudas to make it 4-0 Tips at 5:38; Tendeck was relieved by Trent Miner at that time.

The final goal of the evening was scored by Bryce Kindopp as he fired a laser beam past Miner from the left circle, thanks to a pass by Ondrej Vala with 5:04 left.

Tendeck and Miner had a combined 45 saves this evening while the Tips improved to 3-1-0-0 over Vancouver this season.
