Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - TinCaps right fielder Joshua Mears (No. 14 Padres prospect) drove in a run for the seventh straight game, but Fort Wayne dropped the series finale, 2-1, against the Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland A's affiliate) Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field.
Despite the loss, the TinCaps won the middle four games of the series and have won 9 of their last 13 overall.
Mears' RBI single accounted for the lone Fort Wayne run of the game. It came in the bottom of the fifth with two outs, when Mears hit a soft liner to score center fielder Jakob Marsee (No. 22 Padres prospect). That run made it a 2-1 game.
Mears is the first TinCap to drive in a run in seven consecutive games since Dustin Peterson in 2014. Peterson has since played in the big leagues with the Braves and Tigers.
Both Lansing runs came courtesy of center fielder Junior Perez. He ripped run-scoring singles in both the first and third frames.
TinCaps starting pitcher Victor Lizarraga (No. 7 Padres prospect), who's the youngest player in the Midwest League, turned in four innings and allowed just two earned runs while fanning three.
Relievers Ruben Galindo, José Geraldo, and Raul Brito each contributed scoreless outings out of the bullpen.
Fort Wayne was just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position in the contest.
The TinCaps are in the midst of a 12-game homestand, which continues through next week. Tiickets can be purchased here.
Next Game: Tuesday, May 30 vs. South Bend (6:35 p.m.)
* TinCaps Probable Starter: RHP Jairo Iriarte (No. 11 Padres prospect) * Cubs Probable Starter: TBA
