Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced several transactions on Sunday, including the re-acquisition of right-handed pitcher Cameron McVey.
McVey was acquired on Saturday from the Lincoln Saltdogs in exchange for left-handed pitcher Spencer Herrmann. McVey was 0-4 with one save and a 5.12 ERA for Lincoln in 26 relief appearances. The Glendora, California native struck out 28 batters in just 19.1 innings pitched. Earlier this season, McVey made five relief appearances for the Mexican League's Algodoneros de Union Laguna.
This marks McVey's third tour with the Goldeyes. The 30-year-old was a member of Winnipeg's 2016 American Association championship team, posting a 3.41 ERA and striking out 41 batters in 37.0 innings. McVey rejoined the Goldeyes in 2018, and pitched to a 2.91 ERA in 36 relief outings before finishing the year with Union Laguna.
McVey is in his eighth season of professional baseball and was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 22nd round in 2011 out of Biola University (La Mirada, California). The 6-foot-5, 205-pound McVey is 13-14 lifetime with 13 saves and a 3.60 ERA in 245 appearances, all of them in relief. McVey owns a career 27 percent strikeout rate, and has finished with more strikeouts than innings pitched in each of the past six seasons.
Herrmann was signed on July 5th and made two relief appearances before he was placed on the Disabled List on July 12th.
Additionally, the Goldeyes activated shortstop Adrian Marin from the Inactive List where he was placed on June 19th. Marin was hitting .208 with 10 runs scored and eight RBI in 17 games with a team-best swinging strike percentage of 4.0.
Marin replaces outfielder Willy Garcia who has been removed from the active roster to represent the Dominican National Team in the 2019 Pan-Am Games.
The Goldeyes active roster stands at the American Association maximum 23 players.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes conclude a two-game series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks this afternoon at Shaw Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale now by visiting www.goldeyes.com/tickets or by visiting the box office at Shaw Park.
