
McVeigh, Porter Lead Ice Bears Past Roanoke

Anthony McVeigh had a goal and two assists, Cody Porter made 26 saves and the Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs 4-1 at the Civic Coliseum on Friday night.
Knoxville is 5-1-1 in its last seven games. Roanoke has lost two straight.
Stefan Brucato scored for Knoxville when Dwyer Tschantz fed him in front of the crease on a power play and Brucato slipped a backhand past Henry Dill at 9:15 of the first.
Bryce Nielsen scored his 17th goal of the season with a low wrist shot from the left point at 1:11 of the second to give the Ice Bears a 2-0 lead. Gehrett Sargis finished off a 2-on-1 by beating Dill five-hole at 9:53. McVeigh scored on a rebound at 16:18 to end Dill's night. He was replaced by Austyn Roudebush. Dill finished with 15 saves. Roudebush stopped all 12 shots he faced.
The Rail Yard Dawgs got on the board when Brad Riccardi redirected a pass from Josh Nenedal past Porter ten seconds before the second intermission.
The Ice Bears head to Fayetteville Saturday to take on the Marksmen and don't play at home again until Jan. 31. Roanoke returns home to host the Macon Mayhem.
