CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today that forward Mike McKenzie has been recalled from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL.

McKenzie, 24, is tied for the lead among Florida rookies with 18 goals and ranks tenth among all active ECHL freshmen with 38 points (18g, 20a) in 55 games.

The Whitby, Ontario native was named ECHL Rookie of the Month for December when he posted 17 points in 14 games for the month. An undrafted graduate of St. Lawrence University, McKenzie was the lone player on a Checkers AHL contract to earn an invite to Hurricanes training camp last fall.

It is the second call-up of the year for McKenzie, who skated in a nine-game stint with the Checkers from Feb. 13 to Feb. 27.

The Checkers (36-23-2-6) embark on a four-game road trip beginning tomorrow night in Bridgeport at 7 p.m. The team will return home Tuesday, Mar. 22 to host the Adirondack Phantoms. For ticket information, call 704-342-4423 or visit www.gocheckers.com.
