
McKenna's Four-Point Night Gives Tigers 5-4 Win Over Pats

Regina, SK - Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) scored the game winning goal with just over eight minutes to go in the third. In part of a four point night helping the Medicine Hat Tigers defeat the Regina Pats Tuesday night 5-4.
It was a tough start for the Tigers as just eight seconds into the game Zach Moore, would bank a shot off of Rhett Parsons (Cremona, AB) and the Pats would take an early 1-0 lead. Medicine Hat would get back on track thanks to Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) at 4:42 to snap his 23rd of the season making it 1-1. Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) & Reid Andresen (Saskatoon, SK) would lead to the first Tiger goal. Regina wouldn't go away as at 6:03, the Pats took their second lead of the game from Jaxsin Vaughan on a two-on-one to make it 2-1 Pats.
On a Tiger power play in the first, Gavin McKenna would start and finish the play off at 9:21 with Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) for his 24th of the season to tie the game at 2-2. Medicine Hat would take their first lead of night at 12:53 as Dru Krebs would back-hand his 6th of the season past Ewan Huet to make it 3-2 Tigers from Marcus Pacheco (Edmonton, AB) to take that very 3-2 lead to the second period.
In a slow second period both teams didn't muster much for opportunities but late in the period with 1:05 left in the 2nd as Zane Rowan would get his fifth on another Pats two-on-one to tie the game at 3-3 going to the third.
In the third period Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would follow-up on a Tomas Mrsic (Surrey, BC) blast to notch his 26th of the season past Ewan Huet to help the Tigers regain their lead of 4-3. McKenna would add his 3rd point on the night at 5:54.
Regina made their presence felt on a power play of their own as Braxton Whitehead would send a point shot through beating Ethan McCallum to tie the game at 4-4 at 7:31. At 8:15 the Pats would get a penalty shot and Ethan McCallum would answer the bell.
McKenna would finish off another four point night snapping his 25th of the season at 11:34 to make 5-4 Tigers. Josh Van Mulligen (Medicine Hat, AB) & Mrsic would add power play assists.
The Pats would get a later power play with the extra attacker for the 6 on 4 scenario but the Tigers penalty kill stood tall making sure the road side would get their 32nd win of the season.
Special teams were big for the Tigers on this night going 3/3 while the penalty kill was 2/3 and despite being outshot 29-21. The Tigers would snap a four game losing streak on the road.
Next up for the Tigers, a pair of home games against the Prince Albert Raiders Friday, and the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday.
