
Pats Fight Hard in 5-4 Loss to Tigers

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats had their two game winning-streak come to an end following a 5-4 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday at the Brandt Centre.
Tonight's battle saw five different lead changes. The Pats opened the scoring in the first and had a 2-1 lead before trailing 3-2 after one. In the second period, Zane Rowan would tie the contest with 1:05 to play, as it was 3-3 after 40 minutes of action. After the Tigers took another one goal lead, Braxton Whitehead would tie the game at four with a power play goal in the third.
Gavin McKenna (2G-2A) completed a four point game with the go-ahead goal late in the third period to restore the Tigers one goal lead at 5-4. Shane Smith, Dru Krebs and Oasiz Wiesblatt rounded out the scoring for the Tigers in their second straight win. Tomas Mrsic finished with two assists and Ethan McCallum picked up his 10th win.
Jaxsin Vaughan finished the game with two points (1G-1A) while Tanner Howe chipped in with two assists. The Pats also got scoring from Zach Moore, Whitehead and Rowan, and Ewan Huet made 16 saves in the loss.

THE GOALS
First Period
1-0 Pats at 8 seconds - Zach Moore (5), assisted by Tanner Howe // Howe's shot from the slot caromed off the back boards to Moore at the right side, he took a quick shot that banked off a defender and somehow eluded McCallum to give the Pats a 1-0 lead early in the opening frame.
1-1 Tigers at 4:42 - Oasiz Wiesblatt (24), assisted by Gavin McKenna & Reid Andresen // Wiesblatt ended up with the puck in the slot and let a shot go that beat a screened Huet to tie the contest up at 1-1.
2-1 Pats at 6:03 - Jaxsin Vaughan (13), assisted by Zackary Shantz & Aaron Krestanowich // The Pats broke in on an odd-man rush and Shantz sent a pass to Vaughan who one-timed it past McCallum to give the Pats a 2-1 lead.
2-2 Tigers at 9:21 - Gavin McKenna (24), assisted by Hunter St. Martin & Tomas Mrsic // McKenna skated by the Pats defenders, got in alone, and beat Huet low with a sneaky shot to tie the game up at 2-2.
3-2 Tigers at 12:53 - Dru Krebs (6), assisted by Marcus Pacheco // A Tigers player ended up knocking Huet to the ice, Krebs was able to skate around the back of the net and tuck home a goal to make it 3-2.
Second Period
3-3 Pats at 18:55 - Zane Rowan (5), assisted by Jaxsin Vaughan // Vaughan fired a low shot that was kicked out to Rowan who buried the puck to tie the game up at 3-3 late in the second period.
Third Period
4-3 Tigers at 5:56 - Shane Smith (26), assisted by Tomas Mrsic & Gavin McKenna (PP) // Mrsic's shot from the left circle pinballed off multiple posts to Smith who buried it into an open cage to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead with a powerplay marker.
4-4 Pats at 7:31 - Braxton Whitehead (12), assisted by Tanner Howe & Tye Spencer (PP) // Howe sent a pass to Whitehead at the top of the slot and he one-timed the puck past McCallum to tie the game up at 4-4.
5-4 Tigers at 11:34 - Gavin McKenna (25), assisted by Josh Van Mulligan & Tomas Mrsic (PP) // McKenna's shot from the top of the left circle beat a screened Huet to once again give the Tigers a one goal lead, now 5-4.

It took until his 35th game but Aaron Krestanowich grabbed his first career helper.
