Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen opened a stretch of five straight games on the road tonight with a stop in Central Alberta against the Red Deer Rebels.
A quiet first period ended with a power play goal in the last five minutes from the Red Deer Rebels courtesy of Samuel Drancak to open game scoring. Kai Uchacz would net one more for the home team with 25 seconds remaining in the period. Red Deer's Ollie Josephson would find the back of the net again on the power play five minutes into the second period to make it 3-0. Talon Brigley scored Red Deer's fourth goal of the evening five minutes later to increase the lead to four heading into the final frame.
Jhett Larson made it 5-0 for Red Deer at the 7:20 mark of the third. Calgary finally got on the board in the last five minutes with Ben Kindel scoring his 13th of the season. Red Deer would net one more from Zane Saab making the final score 6-1. Shots finished 34-32 in favour of Red Deer.
Calgary is currently tied for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot with Lethbridge, one point back of Prince Albert for seventh.
Calgary is headed to Brandon to start the weekend with Friday's Feb.16 date against the Wheat Kings. Calgary will then play in Moose Jaw (Saturday, Feb. 17) and Regina (Monday, Feb. 19) before their final stop in Edmonton (Wednesday, Feb. 21). Their next home game isn't until Friday, Feb. 23 when the Wenatchee Wild make their first-ever visit to Scotiabank Saddledome at 7:00 p.m.
