Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Jack O'Brien (3G, 2A) and Nate Danielson (1G, 4A) each posted five points and seven different Portland skaters recorded multiple points as the Winterhawks routed the Everett Silvertips by a whopping 10-2 final at the VMC on Tuesday night. It's the third time this season the Winterhawks have posted double-digit goals in a single game, and the most goals they have ever scored against the Silvertips.
The Winterhawks have won five consecutive contests and their record now stands at 36-12-2-1 on the year (75pts, 1st Western Conference).
Gabe Klassen kicked off the frenzy with a breakaway goal 5:07 into the contest, with O'Brien and Danielson following suit for an early 3-0 Hawks lead. Austin Roest found twine on the power play for Everett to cut the lead to two heading into the break.
Portland found itself shorthanded just 21 seconds into the second period but responded with two shorthanded strikes in under a minute - first from James Stefan, then from Klassen for his second of the evening. Everett's Teague Patton potted his team's second soon after, but the rout was on as Marcus Nguyen and Kyle Chyzowski tacked on two more for the hosts to make it 7-2 through 40 minutes.
Luca Cagnoni rifled a one-timer 17 seconds into the third period for Portland's eighth, and O'Brien potted two more throughout the frame to complete his hat-trick. Jan Špunar finished with 30 saves on 32 shots for Portland, while Tyler Palmer (7/11) and Ethan Chadwick (19/25) stood through the onslaught for the Silvertips.
The Winterhawks are back in action this weekend - first on the road in Vancouver on Friday, then home against the Giants for Mascot Night on Saturday before battling the Silvertips once more on the road on Sunday.
