Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds led 2-1 after six innings following a stellar second start by Deck McGuire, but the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Triple-A Dodgers) rallied for two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to take game two of the series Tuesday night at AutoZone Park, 4-2.

The loss drops Memphis to 2-4 on the season, while Oklahoma City improves to 5-1. McGuire threw a season-high 6.0 innings and allowed only three hits, just one after the first inning, and struck out four with two walks. The run he allowed was unearned. Every Redbird offensive starter had at least one hit, with Mike Ohlman going 2-4 with a run. The Redbirds made two costly errors in the game which both led to Dodger runs.

Oklahoma City picked up a run in the top of the first on a walk, a single, and then a throwing error on a pick-off attempt that put a runner in scoring position to advance home on a Jose Tabata single.

After that, it was all McGuire, as the right-hander set down 14-straight and 17 of the last 18 batters he faced and allowed just the sole first-inning run. McGuire threw 89 pitches in his second start as a Redbird, 58 of which were strikes.

Memphis took a 2-1 lead after a five-hit fifth inning, all singles, with run-scoring base knocks by Dean Anna and Patrick Wisdom both coming with two outs. McGuire helped his cause with a sacrifice bunt moving Mike Ohlman to third and Alex Mejia to second, both of whom singled to start the inning. Anna's base hit to center scored Ohlman, but Mejia was erased at the plate on an outfield assist by Corey Brown. Wisdom followed with a single to plate Anna and give the Redbirds a 2-1 lead after five innings.

Oklahoma City touched Miguel Socolovich for two runs, one earned, in the top of the seventh and took a 3-2 lead, and the Dodgers picked up an insurance run in the top of the eighth off Juan Gonzalez. The Redbirds had a runner on in the bottom of the ninth, but a strikeout and a game-ended double play wrapped up the contest.

Zach Lee moved to 2-0 for Oklahoma City with the win. Socolovich took a blown save and the loss and is 0-1.

The series continues tomorrow night at 6:35 and concludes Thursday morning at 11:05 in the season's first Education Day. J.C. Sulbaran is on the bump for Memphis tomorrow night, and Jeremy Hefner will conclude the eight-game homestand Thursday morning.
