Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Although the Nashville Sounds were able to use a late rally to tie the game in the seventh inning, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox rebounded to take the lead in the eighth and hold on for a 4-3 win on Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park.

Both starting pitchers started off the game in fine form. For Nashville, Chris Smith (0-1, 5.73) retired the first nine Sky Sox batters he faced. His counterpart Zach Davies (0-0, 2.00) retired the first six Sounds batters of the night.

In the third, the Sounds scratched out a run to take the lead. Tyler Ladendorf drove home Rangel Ravelo with a single to give Nashville a 1-0 lead.

Colorado Springs wasted little time answering. Leading off the fourth inning, Alex Presley launched a home run to right field to tie the game. The homer was the first of the 2016 season for the Sky Sox. Orlando Arcia and Michael Reed followed the home run with singles. After a ground out, Hernan Perez came to the plate with runners on second and third. Perez knocked a single to center field to score both Arcia and Reed, giving the Sky Sox a 3-1 lead.

In his second start of the season, Davies pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three. For Nashville, Smith pitched six innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts.

In the fifth, Mitch Lambson came out of the Sky Sox bullpen and pitched two scoreless relief innings. He retired all six batters he faced, four of them with strikeouts.

During the bottom of the seventh, the Sounds were able to tie the game on a bases loaded single by Bruce Maxwell off Jim Miller (1-0, 9.00). After the next batter hit a ground ball to third, Max Muncy tried to score, but was tagged out between third and home after a long rundown.

In the eighth, the Sky Sox were again able to answer. With two outs and runners on the corners, Michael Reed hit a ground ball singe through the middle to score Eric Young Jr. from third to give the Sky Sox a late 4-3 lead. Reliever Eduard Santos (0-1, 4.91) was able to hold the damage to the one run in the eighth, but it proved to be too much for Nashville to overcome.

Damien Magnifico came out of the bullpen in the eighth and was able to finish off the game, getting the final six outs for his first career Triple-A save as the Sky Sox evened their record to 3-3 on the young season.

The Sky Sox and Sounds will play a matinee game on Wednesday morning, with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. MDT. Junior Guerra (0-1, 3.00) will make his second start of the season for the Sky Sox. He will be opposed by Jesse Hahn (0-0, 0.00).
