
New Orleans Knocks Down Iowa

Des Moines, IA - The Iowa Cubs (1-5) came up short against the New Orleans Zephyrs (3-3), falling 4-2 Tuesday night at Principal Park. The Zephyrs rode a strong outing from left-hander Justin Nicolino (1-0) to capture the victory.
Right-hander Ryan Williams took the bump for Iowa and allowed one earned run over five innings. Williams also struck out three batters, walked one and gave up six hits in his second start of the season.
With Iowa trailing 0-1, Kristopher Negr?"n launched his first home run of the season in the third inning to knot the game. Negr?"n's solo shot was the only run that Nicolino gave up during his six innings of work. Left-hander Scott Barnes took the mound to follow Williams, giving up two earned runs off two walks and two hits through 1.2 innings. Jean Machi and C.J. Riefenhauser also contributed to the I-Cubs relief effort.
Over six innings, Nicolino allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one I-Cubs batter. Iowa native Cody Ege relieved Nicolino in the seventh, giving up two hits, one run and striking out one over one inning.
Willson Contreras extended his hitting streak to a team-high six games with a 2-for-4 night at and also added a double. He was the only I-Cub to record a multi-hit effort.
