Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake Bees dropped their first game of the season to the defending Triple-A Champion Fresno Grizzlies by a score of 5-2 on Monday night. Fresno's top three hitters combined to go 9-for-14 with eight singles and four RBIs. The Grizzlies second baseman, Tony Kemp, led the way going 4-for-5 with four singles. Left fielder Eury Perez finished with three singles and a stolen base.
Making his Salt Lake debut, Chris Jones, scattered five hits in four innings of work, allowing just one run and recording four strikeouts. The Bees pitching staff recorded nine strikeouts setting a season-high. Jones and Cam Bedrosian each finished with four K's on the evening. Alex Yarbrough led the Bees offensively bringing in both runs with a two-out triple in the second inning.
"I thought Bedrosian threw the ball really well. Obviously it was his first outing. A lot of times when guys come up-and-down their first outing is a little shaky and then they get their legs back underneath them after a few. But I thought he threw some really good breaking balls. He got himself into a little bit of trouble but he made some pitches and got out of it and then his second inning was really clean. I thought he did a really good job," said Bees manager Keith Johnson.
The Bees remain at home for three more games against Fresno. All games during the series begin at 6:35 p.m. and can be heard on 1280 The Zone with Steve Klauke on the call.
