McGrane, Eagles Beat Lubbock 6-1

LOVELAND, Colo.- Ed McGrane had his second hat-trick this season as the Colorado Eagles cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Lubbock Cotton Kings Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. McGrane totaled four points by adding an assist and Craig Strain and Ryan Tobler each had three assists in the Eagles league-leading 39th win of the season. Marco Emond returned to net for the Eagles and saved 30 of 31 shots for his 23rd win of the season. The Central Hockey League-leading Eagles will take on the Rocky Mountain Rage Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center in the final game of 12 meetings between the two teams. The game will be televised on Altitude Sports & Entertainment starting at 7:00 p.m.

The Cotton Kings and Eagles traded chances for a good majority of the first period until Sean Robertson scored his ninth goal of the season when he banged in a rebound. He was assisted by Craig Strain and Steve Haddon who extended his scoring streak to five games. Jonathan Hobson answered with a rebound goal of his own at the 17:23 mark to tie the game at one heading into the intermission.

Ed McGrane took over in the second scoring the only two tallies in the period. His first was a power play goal on a cross-slot feed from Scott Polaski at the 4:06 mark, and his second was at the 14:15 mark on a wrister from the slot. The Eagles out shot the Cotton Kings 13-10 in the period and held a 3-1 lead going into the final frame.

Aaron Grosul made it a three-goal game when he one-timed a Ryan Tobler pass into the back of the net for his first goal with the Eagles. Steve Haddon took a carom off the back boards and backhanded the puck into the net at the 5:32 mark of the third to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead. He was assisted by Scott Polaski on the play. At the 11:30 mark, Ed McGrane completed his hat trick on assists from Tobler and Fraser Filipic. Final Score: Eagles 6 - Cotton Kings 1.
