Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Salt Potatoes shut out the Rochester Red Wings, 3-0, on Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium in front of a high-energy crowd of 6,586. Salt Potatoes starting pitcher Kyle McGowin was stellar again for Syracuse with seven shutout innings, lowering his Triple-A ERA to 1.33 this season.

Syracuse (57-73) struck first in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Yadiel Hernandez crushed a pitch over the wall in right-center field for his tenth home run of the season, giving Syracuse a 1-0 lead.

The Salt Potatoes extended their lead in the seventh. Hernandez led off with a walk. Adrian Sanchez followed with a double, moving Hernandez to third base. Two batters later, Chris Dominguez singled to left-center field to bring home both Hernandez and Sanchez to push the Syracuse advantage to 3-0.

Rochester (58-70) was stymied by Syracuse starting pitcher Kyle McGowin. The right-hander racked up six strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. McGowin allowed just three hits and one walk, never allowing more than one baserunner in an inning. Salt Potatoes reliever Austen Williams pitched a scoreless eighth inning, escaping a bases-loaded jam. Trevor Gott closed the game out for Syracuse with a scoreless ninth.

Syracuse and Rochester meet again on Saturday night for the Duel of the Dishes as the Salt Potatoes take on the Plates for the Golden Fork Trophy. Top Nationals pitching prospect Erick Fedde is scheduled to make a rehab start for Syracuse. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
