Lancaster Stormers News Release
Mike McDade and Zach Collier combined to drive in 10 runs, leading the Lancaster Barnstormers to an 11-2 victory over the Bridgeport Bluefish in a battle of second half division leaders at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Tuesday.
The win helped preserve the Barnstormers one game lead over York in the Freedom Division. Lancaster is 11-7 after winning their season-high fifth straight.
Collier dealt the first blow in the bottom of the third. The inning got underway with catcher Charlie Cutler being hit by a pitch. After a Lance Zawadzki fly out, Anderson Feliz stroked a double into left field. Cutler and Feliz then scored on Collier's one out game tying single to right-center.
It was McDade who put Lancaster over the top in the sixth inning. Brian Cavazos-Galvez led off the frame with a double off the right field wall. Following two outs, McDade launched a two-out, two-run home run to left field off Matt Iannazzo (4-5) giving the Barnstormers a 4-2 lead.
The duo put the game away in the eighth. Lancaster loaded the bases on a double by Cavazos-Galvez, a walk to Kevin Rivers and a single by Kent Matthes. McDade came up big again with a 2 run single. Lancaster would reload the bases later in the inning, and Zach Collier topped off the scoring with a grand slam to right.
McDade and Collier each collected three hits on the night.
Bridgeport started the scoring in the top of the second off Joe Gardner (4-3). With runners on first and second, Josh Prince hit a hard ground ball off of Anderson Feliz's glove, allowing Brandon Jones to score from second, giving the Bluefish a 1-0 lead. A Jobduan Morales sacrifice fly in the third gave the Bluefish a 2-0 lead.
Joe Gardner (4-3) got out of some jams early on, stranding seven runners over the first four innings. He benefitted from a 5-2-3 double play to close out the Bridgeport fourth. The right-hander allowed two runs on nine hits in seven innings. He walked three and struck out only two.
Iannazzo went five and two-thirds innings allowing four runs on eight hits.
The series will continue with game two on Wednesday. Lancaster will have lefty Nate Reed (1-6) on the mound against Bridgeport's Cody Scarpetta (1-0). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
