McConvey Drops Pair On Lynx To Pace Inferno
November 27, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx rounded out a seven games in nine days stretch at home Saturday night, dropping a disappointing 3-2 regulation loss to the Columbia Inferno before 3,026 fans at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
Columbia opened the scoring just 1:20 into the contest when D'Arcy McConvey scored his first of the night on a wraparound from behind the Lynx net. Augusta goaltender Jason Saal tried to poke check McConvey as he brought the puck out in front, creating enough space for the Inferno forward to slide the puck between Saal's pads for a 1-0 lead. Augusta evened the contest at 5:11 of the first with a power play goal from Jamie Johnson, his second consecutive game notching a man-up tally. Johnson cruised through the slot and picked up the rebound from a Louis Goulet shot for the conversion. Sean Connolly recorded the second assist on the goal, giving him a point in his last six games (3-4-6). To round out the scoring in the first, Ryan Campbell tipped in a Bryson Busniuk pass at 14:10 to give Columbia a 2-1 edge at the intermission.
Middle frame action saw only one goal, and it came off the skate of Jim Shepherd at 9:30 from Matt Dzieduszycki and Steve Munn. Dzieduszycki slid a pass in front of the Inferno net in an attempt to hit Shepherd's stick, but he was tied up in front of the net by a Columbia defender, and the puck deflected in off his skate to tie the game after two periods of play.
Finally, it was McConvey's second goal of the game that turned out to be the game winner at 5:56 of the third period. Derek Eastman and Chase Fitzpatrick helped set up the go-ahead marker. The Lynx continued to come back and press the Inferno, but failed to find the twine even with a late power play chance. Augusta would finish the game 1-for-5 on the man advantage, while Columbia did not score in five chances against. Saal finished with 21 saves in the loss, while Mike Minard made 35 saves to earn the win for Columbia.
The Lynx will get back to action on Tuesday night against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 pm. Tickets are $10, $13, and $14, and are available through the Augusta Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com. Pre-game show on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630 starts at 6:35 pm.
