STATE COLLEGE, PA - Ryan McCarvel became the second player in State College Spikes history to hit for the cycle, and Ronnie Williams tied a franchise record with 10 strikeouts to lead the Spikes past the Brooklyn Cyclones, 10-4, on Thursday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

McCarvel, who hit the Spikes' (10-4) first home run of the year on Friday in West Virginia, smashed a solo homer down the left field line on the first pitch he saw in the eighth to join Jimmy Bosco as the only State College players with cycles. Bosco accomplished the feat on June 26, 2013 at Mahoning Valley.

The 19th-round draft choice of the Cardinals in 2015, McCarvel started his night with an RBI single in the first, and followed with a triple to center field that scored a run in the fifth. The Spikes' first baseman then delivered a two-run double in the sixth before etching his name into the record books with his fifth RBI of the night on the long ball.

Williams (2-1) joined McCarvel in the record books when he struck out his tenth batter of the night in the eighth inning. The right-hander matched the 10 strikeouts attained by Will Anderson on June 29, 2014 against Williamsport, Fernando Baez in a New York-Penn League Semifinal Series game against Hudson Valley on September 5, 2014, and Juan Perez on July 18, 2015 against Batavia.

All four record-setting strikeout games have come at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Cardinals' 2014 second-round draft choice allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over eight innings of work, throwing 93 pitches, 63 for strikes, in the process. Williams also became just the fifth Spike to go eight innings in a start, matching teammate Bryan Dobzanski's stint on Sunday at West Virginia.

State College used a pair of big innings behind McCarvel to drive the offense. The Spikes scored four runs in the fifth, with Bladimil Franco's double and Elier Rodriguez's single also knocking in runs in the frame. In the sixth, State College added three more runs.

Brooklyn's (6-8) biggest flurry was in the fourth, when Colby Woodmansee, Brandon Brosher and Arnaldo Berrios each produced RBI singles. The Cyclones added a run in the ninth on Berrios's single, his third hit of the game.

The crowd at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park also included 377 dogs as part of the first Bark in the Park Night of the season, presented by Metzger Animal Hospital and NEWSRADIO 1390 WRSC.

Cyclones starter Joel Huertas (0-2) took the loss after giving up eight runs on 12 hits, a walk and a hit batsman over 5 1/3 innings. Huertas struck out four in the effort.

Dylan Tice produced three hits and scored three times for the Spikes as well.

The Spikes maintained their lead in the NYPL Pinckney Division with the win.

Friday, the Spikes welcome a new opponent to town when the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians) arrive to start a three-game series with a 7:05 p.m. matchup. State College will put Dobzanski (1-1), a right-hander, on the mound after he earned the win against West Virginia on Sunday. Mahoning Valley is slated to go with right-hander Aaron Civale (0-0).
