LINCOLN, Neb. - Nikolai Mayorov scored 2:10 into overtime, lifting the Lincoln Stars (15-24-3) to a 3-2 victory over the Fargo Force (27-16-3) on Sunday afternoon at the Ice Box.

The first period consisted of perimeter play for both clubs as there were only ten shots fired between both teams. Fargo fired six of them, but Aidan McCarthy was there to stop them all. There were no penalties in the scoreless set of 20 minutes.

Cody Monds gave the visitors the first lead of the game with a beautiful individual effort from the left circle as he beat McCarthy over the glove side 23 seconds into the second frame.

Dominic James potted his eighth goal of the season at 12:14 following an initial shot from Carter Schade. The Minnesota-Duluth commit picked up the rebound in the low slot and slid it past a sprawling Andrew Miller to tie up the game.

After 40 minutes, the Stars only mustered seven shots on goal, but they were knotted up 1-1 with Fargo.

Tristan Broz got the Force back in front with a power-play goal at 10:16 after a great passing play with Monds and Aaron Huglen. Under four minutes later, Mayorov found himself on a breakaway, depositing the puck behind Miller thanks to a terrific fake to the backhand at 13:29. The Russian winger's 12th goal of the season tied the game at two apiece, forcing overtime.

The 20-year-old would be called upon once again, this time on a two-on-one rush in the extra frame. Mayorov blew a wrist shot past the glove-side of Miller for his team-leading 13th goal this year, winning the game for the Stars.

Lincoln has now won three straight games and has points in four consecutive contests (3-0-1). They have also picked up points in their last five games at the Ice Box (4-0-1).

The special teams battle was controlled by Fargo, as the Force were 1-for-1 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

McCarthy stopped 23 shots, snagging his fifth win of the season.
